Card Breakdown: The Tower!

One card that freaks most people out in a reading, no matter which way you read it, it usually spells disaster. Reversed or upright, it’s usually seen as a pretty negative card and most of the time, the imagery is pretty dark. Traditionally, there is a tower that is on fire, struck by lightning and people are falling out of the tower to their death. It’s a dark one.

Consider for a moment though that everyone has moments of destruction. It’s something that everyone can relate to. It’s also something that we all need to learn how to cope with, and rebuild from in some aspect of life. Some ‘tower moments’ are ones that stay with us forever- some we can empathize with, but maybe never truly know the pain of. Others maybe we can slowly pick away at over time, or maybe it’s something that we need help working through.

Each deck has its own way of expressing this card- and the imagery varies from deck to deck. Check out a selection of mine here:

Creatures Tarot: Interestingly there are two options for the tower for this deck (I only have the one major set though 🙂 ) There is a similar sense of loss and a sort of turning your back on destruction, as often when a tree breaks or dies, it is left to rot, kind of forgotten. With the other half of the tree still standing, I feel like this card holds a bit more hope and I would read it as losing what is dead, or what doesn’t serve you any more.

The Hidden Light Tarot: A sailboat in a lightning storm spells disaster, but it seems as if it hasn’t hit yet- there is a feeling that destruction is imminent, but you have some time to collect yourself and prepare for it to hit. The fire hasn’t started yet- it’s coming though.

Tarot Ultra Violet.te: The roots here seem to demonstrate that the problem or the destruction may run deep. The mouths in the background could show that people may be speaking poorly of you behind your back, or that others’ opinions may be the thing that brings you down (This deck is awesome, by an awesome Montreal-based Canadian creator- incredibly open, LGBTQIA+ positive and inclusive. I want to do a whole deck run through with it in a later post. I love it).

Cosma Visions: This is a companion card, called The Shore- it has more of a starting-from-the-bottom vibe- almost as if the tower moment has hit so…now what do you do? Watch out, more dangers may rain down on you, but you can work to find your own footing. This reads a bit more positive to me. The fire is over.

Transient Light Tarot: The tower is on an island here- and the stairway is circular, almost as if it never ends. There’s a much stronger feeling of isolation here for me- you feel completely alone and it’s like your spiralling into darkness in the wake of the stuff that has happened. Similar feelings of being alone and left to fend for yourself, but perhaps less fire, less ultimate destruction.

All amazing decks- what does your Tower card look like? Tell me in the comments! Convince me to buy YET ANOTHER DECK. haha

Monthly Challenge: Lionharts Wanderlust: Days 16 and 17

Day 16: What qualities do I need to embody to navigate through current challenges:

Card: Infinite Paths (mirror card, The Sun). This is a card that speaks of happiness and asks that you radiate positivity and abundance will make its way to you- overall a very happy, positive card to get 🙂

Day 17: How can I embrace my wild side to live my best authentic life?

Card: Seven of Lotuses (mirror card, 7 of cups/chalices). DECISIONS. This card and the 10 of swords seem to be following me. I guess it’s telling me I need to make the choice of living my authentic life? There are many changes currently happening, and I need to be of two worlds- live on the land and in the water like the frogs and the lotus flowers do.

Deck used: I absolutely love the artwork on this deck, and I would love to have the Prisma Visions tarot. This is the Cosma Visions Oracle (functions as a tarot companion, an alternate tarot deck, and an oracle deck of its own) by James R Eads. If you haven’t, check out his website. He has some of the most beautiful decks and artwork for sale. He also routinely does sales, so sign up for the mailing list to get notified for it!

I’m having a sleepy day today- how about you? Let me know what cards you pull or what you think of this deck in the comments.

Monthly Challenge: LionHart’s WanderLust: Day 5

Let’s get into it!

Day 5: How can I use, or embrace my natural environment to help me with my current journey?

Cards pulled: The Pathfinder (mirror card Page of Pentacles), The Phoenix (mirror card the Hierophant), 5 of Birds (mirror card 5 of Swords).

The pathfinder in this deck is the one who works hard to find his way through life and through his struggles and problems, and as such, I think is encouraging me to keep working hard at school and at work (the systems in my life may be referenced here with the Phoneix), but not to push myself past the point of no return (5 of swords). I have to remember to slow down and take it easy whenever I can.

The deck used here is the Cosma Vision Oracle from James R Eads. I think this particular deck is absolutely stunning, especially with the navy blue foiling around the edges. It can be a bit tricky for a novice to read because the suits are different, the court cards (King, Queen, Page and Knight) are their own suit with different names, and the major arcana has changed as well. That being said, the little guidebook is incredibly helpful, and if you have a basic understanding of RWS systems, this isn’t so hard to follow. It’s a *teeny weeny* bit expensive, but the website often runs sales, and if you keep an eye on it, you can snag it for a discounted price.

What cards did you pull? What do you think about decks with different major arcana representations? Tell me in the comments!
